Hibiscus is favored in Chinese culture. It symbolizes beauty and nobility, wealth and prosperity, as well as purity and love.

In ancient times, there was a woman. Her husband died at sea, but this woman didn’t believe it. So she squatted by the shore every day waiting for his return. One day, she saw her husband’s face emerging in the water. When she turned her head, it was actually a tree on the shore. From then on, she regarded this tree as her husband and lingered here every day. When the villagers heard of this, they called this tree “Tu Rong”, which means “husband’s countenance” in Chinese. The flower that blooms is called “Fu Rong flower”.
