Crystal Bracelet – The Fable of Moonlight Fox Fairy
Do you know about Chinese stoies of foxes? And the fables behind this crystal bracelet – Moonlight Fox Fairy, start to read below.
In ancient times, the nine-tailed fox was once a symbol of spirituality. For example, there are records of the nine-tailed fox in “Classic of Mountains and Rivers”. In the pre-Qin period, foxes often participated in social life as an “auspicious omen”, accompanying gods and nobles. They were “auspicious beasts” similar to dragons and phoenixes. This “auspicious” image continued into the Han Dynasty. By the Tang and Song dynasties, foxes had been worshipped in temples set up by people and were very popular. The image of foxes became even more diverse. There was not only an auspicious side but also some mysterious and enchanting qualities bestowed upon them. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the image of foxes became even richer. Feelings such as “enchanting”, “evil”, “immortal”, “mysterious”, and “cunning” are common impressions people have when thinking of “foxes”.
Folklore has it that foxes can become refined through cultivation, transform into human form, and possess many magical powers. The fox fairy has different images in different stories, there are kind and righteous fox fairies who will help humans; There are also evil fox demons who harm people by means of seduction and other means. For example, Daji in “Romance of the Gods” is a fox demon possessed by a thousand-year-old nine-tailed fox. She charmed the lord, leading to the demise of the Shang Dynasty(c.1600 BC–c. 1046 BC) and pushing the image of the lewd fox to the extreme.
The story I want to tell this time comes from Yuan Mei’s “What the Master Would Not Discuss” in the Qing Dynasty.
When General’s son Xiang Mingong, called Zhao was the governor of Baoding. He was studying in the west building one night with the closed doors and windows. A monster squeezed in through the cracks in the window, and his body was flat. When he arrived in the room, he rubbed his head and feet with his hands, and slowly swelled up like a balloon, and became a person wearing a square scarf and red boots, and looking like a scholar.
He bowed to Zhao, saying that he was a fox fairy, who had lived here for a hundred years, and studied here thanks to the care of the previous adults. Now that Xiang Mingong was here, he did not dare to rob the house with the minister of the Son of General, so he came to ask for instructions.
If Zhao wanted to study here, he should have given it up, but he hoped to have a grace of three days to move. If Zhao took pity on him and allowed him to live here, then locked the house as before.
Zhao was shocked and said with a smile: “You are a fox, how can you be a student?” The fox fairy said that Taishan godness arranged an exam for the foxes, once a year, and admitted those foxes who were well-versed in articles and understood things as students, and those who were not selected were wild foxes, and students could cultivate immortals, and wild foxes did not have this qualification.
Then, the fox fairy said to Zhao enviously, a noble person like Zhao, it is a pity that he does not cultivate immortals, it is very difficult to cultivate immortals like foxes, he must first cultivate human form, and then learn human words, before learning human words, he must first learn bird language, and it is not easy to learn bird language, and it is not easy to learn bird language all over the world. After all bird languages can be spoken, he can learn people’s voices and refine human form, which takes more than 500 years to go back and forth. Like people learn immortals, compared to animals like foxes, there are 500 years of hard work, if it is a noble or literati, just like Zhao. Compared with mortals, it saves another 300 years of hard work, because it generally takes about 1,000 years to become an immortal, which is a fixed number.’
When Zhao heard him say this, he was very happy, and the next day he asked people to lock the west building and give it to the fox fairy.
In this story, the fox appears in the form of a scholar, polite and mysterious. This bracelet carries the blessings of the fox fairy who loves to learn, and the clear crystal enlightens the soul and enhances wisdom. The faceted design of the amethyst represents the charming nature of the fox image, enhancing the charm of the wearer. The bracelet also uses a square black agate design, because the square shape is more respected in Chinese culture than the ball type, and the black agate represents the mysterious characteristics of the fox, guarding the wearer and eliminating negative energy for you. Let this bracelet become a fox fairy and accompany you through every day of learning.
